1-3-Years-SleepA child who is between one and three years old will usually sleep between 10-12 hours a day.  Preparation for sleep is important to a child of this age.  It can be beneficial to have a sleep routine that is always the same so that the child knows that when the routine is finished, it’s time to sleep.

A routine that takes between 15 and 30 minutes is ideal.  Playing soft music or reading a book during this time is very popular with parents.  Activities which don’t require too much thinking on your child’s part are great for wind down or “quiet time”.  Many children of this age have made attachments to a favourite soft toy, or a blanket so once this time is over, a child can be put in his bed with his blanket or his sleeping animals and he will soon be sleeping.  Children of this age are usually still napping for a couple of hours in the middle of the day.
