Road Trip

Enjoy a family road trip around the UK

Taking a road trip around the United Kingdom may seem like a dated holiday idea, but it can still be a great family activity. Even though the price of petrol may seem too high at times, if you consider the experiences, memories and fun that could be had from the road trip, it should be a no brainer for your next family holiday, it will be well worth the cost. There is so much you can see and do when you have a car. Whether it is a car of your own or a recreational vehicle, you will have a wonderful sense of freedom and access to go anywhere you want at a moment’s notice.

Family Trip Planning
There are a few things you should think about before you set off on the road with your family. Always plan far enough in advance for your trip and have a budget in mind. Even though you are driving, it is still a sensible idea to plan even minor details ahead of time. Knowing where the cheapest petrol stations are and knowing the location of car repair shops is often a useful precaution!

You should also create a budget for additional activities while traveling. Consider how much it would cost to use your own vehicle versus leasing one while you are visiting an area. If you own a recreational vehicle, such as a caravan or camper van, you should make a note of where to find the any recreational parks in the area you are traveling; making an advanced booking is also worth considering.

Every road trip has a starting and ending point. Do some research online to find out what interesting places are in between your beginning and ending point, so that you can visit these places while traveling.

Since you are traveling with the family, you need to be very patient, as when you go on a long family road trip, familiarity can breed contempt. You will be in a limited amount of space with your children for a long time, so some patience and understanding will definitely be necessary. Try and take travel activities for in the car if you’re going to be on the road for a few hours, or remember some of your favourite in-car games! Road spotting games are one of the best ways of bonding during family road trips.

Great UK Destinations
If you’re in the South of the UK, taking a nice afternoon trip from London to Brighton is always enjoyable and is easy to accomplish in just a few hours. You will get a nice sense of freedom while enjoying the beautiful countryside of South Downs and the Weald. As you get into Brighton, you can see the many bars, crazy clothes shops and jewellery boutiques as well its famous pebble beach, where you should find something fun for the kids!
Travelling north from here, it is always a pleasure to visit the Cotswolds part of the country, or consider going to Leeds, which is now considered one of the more fashionable places in the UK, with some fun family museums such as the interactive Royal Armouries. Visiting the Scottish Highlands makes a great road trip, where stopping off at the local distilleries for a visit is a must - for the older members of the family anyway!

If you are bored with the same old scenery and desire something fun and new, take the wheel and go on an exciting road adventure to enjoy life.

How early do you plan for your road trips?
