Sandra Bullock and son Louis

Sandra Bullock took some rare time out to take her young son Louis to the park recently. The academy award winning actress who recently donated $1 million to the people of Japan via the American Red Cross, in the wake of the recent terrible earthquake and tsunami, looked incredibly happy and relaxed while taking a break from the set of her latest film, which is based on Jonathan Safran Foer's novel, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.

Sandra is one of a long list of American celebrities who have pledged money to help. Included is Gwen Stafani who also donated $1 million, Lady Gaga who has raised at least $250,000, Jack Johnson, Justin Bieber, Clint Eastwood, Jackie Chan, Boyz II Men and even troubled actor Charlie Sheen has pledged his support. Disney has donated a considerable amount and has also promised to match anyone in their organisation's contributions up to a further $1 million. Concerts are being organised, songs are being recorded, merchandise is being sold, all in the name of raising a sizable amount of money for the Japanese relief effort.

On the other side of the pond, however, one has to wonder where our UK champions are?

There is a lot of publicity surrounding those celebrities in the US who have donated, however, very little here from the UK. So what is the reason? Are our celebrities donating quietly, or do they simply not care? Please correct us if we're wrong, however, the only British people we've been able to find references to donating include British Band, Beady Eye, which features Liam Gallagher (former Oasis front man) who will perform at London's Brixton 02 Academy on 3rd of April. They are to be joined by Richard Ashcroft, Graham Coxon, Paul Weller, The Coral and Primal Scream, and they have confirmed that all funds raised will go to the British Red Cross to help with the Japanese relief effort. Our very own tennis star Andy Murray will be taking part in a charity football game "“ but guess what? That's happening in America!

So, are our celebrities the silent angels? What are your thoughts?
